During August 2026, the Story Museum held a Week of Welcome. For three days, groups of families (in collaboration with local charities and facilitative access groups, as well as translators for Ukrainian, Dari/Pashto and Arabic) attended a morning of storytelling, a guided tour, and making a Quilt of Welcome.

First, Lucy Webber (Head of Learning at the Story Museum) told a version of "Stone Soup" - fox comes into a village and is hungry, but nobody is willing to share their vegetables. As he prepares "stone soup", the villagers become intrigued, and happily contribute some of their vegetables to the pot - until there is enough for all to share. Following the story, Lucy and Kelly Codling-Bray (Community Producer) took the families on a tour of the Story Museum, before they returned for another story. "Story Soup" - as an extension of "Stone Soup" - asked children and their parents to add words that make them feel happy, welcome, as well as words that start a story - to the pot, before we turned these words into quilt squares for the museum's very own Quilt of Welcome.
